(SALEM, IL) — A multi-agency drug sweep resulted in 16 people being arrested in Marion County Tuesday on an assortment of federal drug charges. The FBI, along with the Marion, Jefferson and Clinton County Sheriff’s offices, the Centralia Police Department, Illinois State Police Meth Response Team and Mt. Vernon Police Department all worked in conjunction on the operation that is part of a larger effort to crack down on Methamphetamine production and distribution in the area. Those arrested include 50-year-old Daniel Gazdik, 34-year-old Joseph Smith, 23-year-old Rachel Reeve, and 31-year-old Misty Fear, along with 21-year-old Katelyn Flanagan, 41-year-old David Altom, 35-year-old Jayme Barnes, 48-year-old James Horton, 26-year-old Shelonda Shackleford, 21-year-old Katelyn Woolever, and 33-year-old Sarah Davis, all of Centralia. Also arrested are 39-year-old Dusty Gambill of Patoka, 40-year-old Brian Fear of Wamac, 61-year-old Kathy Tomes of Sandoval, 51-year-old Destry Wood of Central City, and 60-yearold Craig Heitkamp of Odin Road. In addition to meth related charges, some of those arrested are also facing charges of distributing heroin in the area. A search warrant served on the South Elm Street home of Daniel Gazdik resulted in multiple arrests. Several individuals were also charged with the distribution of heroin in Centralia. Many of the arrests came after a search warrant was conducted on Gazdik’s S. Elm Street Home in Centralia. The operation, which is ongoing, has resulted in the arrest of 24 individuals at this time, with others still being sought, including Franklin and Deana Johnson, of Centralia.
