Jackie Branch Boat Ramp at Rend Lake Temporarily Closing for Improvements
BENTON, IL – The Rend Lake Jackie Branch Boat Ramp, including the entrance roadway, parking lot and restrooms will close June 2 and June 3 for accessibility improvements.
The closure is necessary for the installation of an accessible fishing dock and kayak launch.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake partnered with the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance to complete the project. Specifications for the new infrastructure include:
- A 10-by-20-foot floating dock with non-skid PVC decking, side railings, intermediate handrails, and edge roll-off guards
- A 12-by-16-foot double kayak slip dock with an American with Disabilities Act-compliant transfer platform and overhead grab rail
- A 40-foot American with Disabilities Act-compliant walkway extending into Jackie Branch cove
Laborers representing the Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 773 will install this new recreational feature on June 2 and 3. Jackie Branch Boat Ramp will reopen to public access once work is complete.
