JEFFERSON COUNTY — Area motorists will be facing another challenge starting Monday when the Illinois Department of Transportation begins work on Interstate 64 west of Mt. Vernon to the Jefferson/Washington County line.

According to Dawn Johnson, spokesperson for IDOT, the work will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, but in the off hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., there will be no workers or equipment present on the project.

The work is necessary for asphalt patching and will be done only between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Johnson does say the work will result in intermittent lane closure on both eastbound and westbound sides of the interstate and will continue until sometime in the fall.
