WAYNE COUNTY — A 37-year-old Xenia woman has been formally charged in Wayne County Court in connection with an incident earlier this month when she allegedly attempted to drown one of her children.

Charity Bailey was advised in court Monday of the Class 2 felony charge against her of aggravated domestic battery and the possible penalties if she’s convicted.
According to sheriff’s reports, after an interview with authorities Friday, Bailey was arrested on a warrant charging her with the felony offense and was booked into the Wayne County Jail. Authorities say more charges could be filed.

She’s accused of attempting to drown her child in a pond at their home on March 11. Her husband reportedly came home that day and found his wife holding the child under the water. He rescued the child who was rushed to the hospital. Reports indicate the child is expected to make a full recovery. Authorities also reported Bailey was taken to the hospital in Centralia for psychiatric care.

She’s next due to appear on April 11 in Wayne County Court for a preliminary hearing and a first appearance with her attorney.
