ODIN — William “Bruce” Duncan, 67, of Odin, Illinois passed away March 10, 2023, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO with family by his side.

Born March 16, 1955, in Centralia, he was the son of Gene L. and Mary L. (DeMay) Duncan who preceded him in death along with his birth father, William Wayman.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Salem, with his brother-in-law Tim James officiating. Dr. Andy DeWitt, the church pastor will assist. Burial will follow in the Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin. Visiting hours will be from 5-8:00 pm Tuesday at the Sutherland – Rankin Funeral Home in Salem and from 10:00 am until the service hour at the church on Wednesday.

Bruce was President and Co-owner of Duncan Oil Company in Salem. A true sportsman, he will be remembered as an avid hunter and fisherman. He was proud of being the 1981 Louisiana State Trap Shooter champion and was still an excellent marksman. He attended college graduating from Lincoln Trail Technical College with an associate’s degree in Oil and Gas. He worked as an off-shore drilling consultant, and later served in law enforcement in Louisiana. He was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

In 1991 he united in marriage with Charlotte Ann Harris and she survives in Odin, along with his children Scott Duncan and wife Amanda of Norman, OK. Brent Sherman and wife Tammy of Saline, TX, Blaine Sherman and wife Lauren of Odin, IL, Chelanie Beese and husband Col. Chris serving in the United States Army, and Brice Sherman and wife Mindy of Texas. Also grandchildren Brett, Shyenne, Brenin, Derrick, Allison, Andon, Hannah, Camreigh and William, and great-grandchildren Bryson, Corbin, and Ellie. Also left to mourn his passing is his brother Jim Duncan and wife Ria of Salem, his niece Kacie Walker and husband Grant Lobek of Salem, nephew Alex Duncan of Monroe, Louisiana, mother-in-law Shirley Harris of Texas along with several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
