MOUNT VERNON — A Mt. Vernon teacher has been recognized for her work preparing students to succeed.

Monica Maxey is the special education coordinator at Summersville Grade School and Curriculum Associates has named her one of its 2023 Extraordinary Educators.

Maxey is one of 30 educators from 22 states selected for exhibiting best-in-class use of I-Ready to illustrate the growth and achievement of students.

She was selected for demonstrating innovation and engagement practices for students and being an evangelist for high expectations and student achievement.

The Vice President of Educator Community at Curriculum Associates Emily McCann says those named Extraordinary Educators are true rock stars.

She says they are happy to recognize and celebrate Monica Maxey for her amazing work in the classroom and look forward to providing her with ongoing professional learning and networking opportunities to help her continue to grow her craft.
