BECKEMEYER, IL — Clinton County authorities have released the names of all three occupants killed in a head-on crash Friday between a car and a semi truck on Old Highway 51 near Beckemeyer. According to Clinton County Coroner Phil Moss, 15-year-old Brooke-Lynn Kay Broughton, of Carlyle, was driving the car with a learner’s permit when for unknown reasons she crossed the centerline and struck a semi-truck being driven westbound by a man from Ashley.

Brooke-lynn’s older sister 17-year-old Savanna Grace Broughton, also of Carlyle, was a backseat passenger, and their 43-year-old aunt Rhonda Evans, of Ackerman, Mississippi was a front-seat passenger in the car. All three occupants of the car were killed in the crash. Both Broughton sisters were students at Carlyle High School where school officials had counselors and clergy available to speak with students troubled by the loss of the girls.

Funeral service for the girls will be held at 3 p.m. today [Monday] at the First Baptist Church in Carlyle. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon today until the time of services at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Savanna are suggested to the Carlyle High School Class of 2023. Memorials in memory of Brooke-Lynn are suggested to the Carlyle High School Band. Memorials will be received through Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.

Savanna was on the homecoming court, served as Student Council president, and was a reporter for the Carlyle High School FFA. Savanna had a passion for mission work and enjoyed serving at homeless and women’s shelters. Brooke-Lynn played tenor sax in the Carlyle High School band and was a member of the color guard. She loved art and painting.

Both were members of the First Baptist Church in Carlyle where they were members of the Praise and Worship Team.
