CENTRALIA, IL — A Mt. Vernon man was formally charged Monday in Marion County Court with possession of methamphetamine. 42-year-old Daniel Morton had been wanted for two months on a vehicle theft charge when he was found as a passenger in a vehicle involved in an early Monday morning traffic stop at the Calumet Street Hucks in Centralia. During a search while he was being taken into custody, he was found with methamphetamine in his pocket.

The original charge on November 20th comes from an incident where Morton allegedly stole a car, that he would later abandon in Walnut Hill, from someone watching a house fire in Centralia. The abandoned vehicle housed a debit cart with Morton’s name on it along with his wallet and other credit cards in his name.

Bond for Morton was set at $7,500.
