CENTRALIA, IL — Two children were airlifted to St. Louis area hospitals for treatment following a two-vehicle crash at Calumet and Elm Street in Centralia Saturday morning.

According to reports, just before 11 a.m. Saturday, a van driven by 23-year-old Alexander Russell of  Salem, was northbound on Elm Street when he couldn’t stop in time and ran a red light before colliding with an eastbound pickup truck on Calumet Street driven by 52-year-old Charles Lawson of Centralia.

Both drivers refused hospital treatment, but a six-year-old male juvenile and a ten-year-old female juvenile were taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital  before being airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment.
