SANDOVAL, IL — Sandoval firefighters returned Saturday night to a vacant home in the 600 block of North Vine, where a fire appears to have been intentionally set for the second time in a week.

Fire officials say they first responded to the home last week where fire was set at three spots around the exterior of the vacant home. Firefighters were able to put out those spots with very minor damage to the structure. Then around 6:44 Saturday, a neighbor reported a second fire that firefighters say appeared to have been set when an accelerant was poured inside the back porch of the home. The State Fire Marshal’s office has been called to investigate.Firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control before flames were able to spread into the rest of the home.

The Village is working to have the home demolished.
