MARION, IL — A report of shots fired in Marion Saturday afternoon turned into a police pursuit that ended with five suspects being arrested in Carterville.

According to Marion Police, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 900 block of Sherman Drive at 1 p.m. Saturday. Officers were able to get a description of the suspect vehicle, found the vehicle matching the description, and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle refused the stop and fled from responding officers.

Officers followed the vehicle through Marion into Carterville to the area of Shawnee Trail Road just north of Route 13 where the suspect vehicle ran off the roadway and was involved in a single vehicle collision. The suspects in the vehicle fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

Multiple agencies, canine units and air support responded to the area and set up a perimeter. A search in the wooded area began and all five suspects were found and taken into custody.

Marion Police say this is an ongoing investigation and more details will be provided when they become available.
