MT. VERNON, IL — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office recently stressed the importance of safe sleeping habits for children through their Safe-to-Sleep Program. The Southern Illinois Child Death Task Force met in July for training and some of the information presented was how to educate the public to keep our little ones safe from SUID (Sudden Unexplained Infant Death) or SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

Sheriff Jeff Bullard says thankfully, rates have been steadily dropping since the early 1990’s, but more can still be done.
