JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL — Housing authorities in Jackson and Jefferson counties are among 19 housing authorities across Illinois receiving part of over $33 million in American Rescue Plan Funds for Emergency Housing Vouchers in Illinois.

According to a press release Thursday from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Housing Authority of the County of Jackson was awarded $155,316 to cover 17 vouchers. The Housing Authority of Jefferson County was awarded $153,048 to cover 15 vouchers. HUD awarded Illinois just over $33 million to cover the cost of 2,153 vouchers and related administrative costs, including upfront costs needed to stand up the program for an initial 18-month period.

This funding gives communities significant resources to assist individuals and families who are homeless; at risk of homelessness; fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking; or recently homeless. It helps individuals and families find housing and remain stably housed long-term.
