CENTRALIA, IL — A 36-year-old St. Louis man has been formally charged in Marion County Court with sexually abusing a Centralia woman while parked in his vehicle on a Centralia street. According to Centralia police Donta Bass was arrested Wednesday after the alleged 19-year-old victim fled the vehicle on Wright Drive and ran to a friend’s nearby apartment to call for help.

Bass was still in his vehicle when police arrived at the scene and he reportedly gave consent for them to search the car. After he was taken to the Centralia Police Department, officers reportedly discovered Bass was in possession of 10 Ecstasy pills. The woman told police Bass had tried to get her to take an Ecstasy pill after he had sexually assaulted her with a liquor bottle in the car.

Bass was ultimately taken to the Marion County Jail and was charged in court Thursday with Class 4 felonies for criminal sexual abuse by force and possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $15,000 and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 2.
