MARION COUNTY, IL — A 21-year-old Sandoval man is facing a new charge of aggravated battery after allegedly striking a Marion County Jail correctional officer.

Preston Sloan reportedly struck the officer in the face after two officers went into a jail cell to break up an altercation between two inmates.

When Stone was being removed from the cell, he allegedly continued to resist and was ultimately placed in a restraint chair until he calmed down.

Sloan was in jail after being arrested by Centralia police for alleged aggravated battery to a police officer after he allegedly threw a chair, phone book, and plate at an officer who had gone into to his room at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital where he reportedly ripped a phone off the wall.
