JONESBORO – A Jonesboro man has been charged in Union County for trying to meet a minor for sex.

According to Union County State’s Attorney Daniel Klingemann and Union County Sheriff Scott Harvel, Harold Thomas Goerz – who is also known as Harry T. Goetz – is charged with one count of indecent solicitation of a child – a Class 2 felony, one count of traveling to meet a minor – a Class 3 felony, one count of solicitation to meet a minor – a Class 4 felony and one count of grooming – a Class 4 felony.

Goetz is charged with attempting to meet with a person he believed to be a child under the age of 14 years for the purpose of sexual gratification. Goetz was arrested on Sept. 10, 2020 following an extensive investigation by Union County Sheriff’s Detective Bart Hileman with assistance of KTS Predator Hunters.

Goetz is being held in the Jackson County Jail in Murphysboro on $50,000 bond. He is set to appear in Union County Court in Jonesboro for a preliminary hearing on Friday, Oct. 2 at 10:30 a.m.
