JEFFERSON COUNTY — Another Jefferson County long-term care facility is experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak.

The Jefferson County Health Department did not name the affected facility Friday, but they announced that 21 long-term care residents at the facility along with six staff members have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

In addition to the 27 people connected to the long-term care facility, five other county residents were confirmed to have the coronavirus in the county health department’s Friday update for a total of 32 new cases on the day.

The total cases now in the county since the start of the pandemic sits at 265, with 59 cases active and currently in isolation.

The health department asks residents to stay home and away from others if they are having any symptoms. If you do get tested, you should remain at home in isolation while you wait your test results.

Statewide, 2,084 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus were announced by the IDPH Friday afternoon, along with 21 additional deaths.

The state surpassed 190,000 cases of the novel coronavirus on Friday, and 7,613 Illinoisans have died of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
