James Willis “Jim” Keele, 81, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 7:04 a.m., July 17, 2020, at his home.

He was born August 15, 1938, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Willis and Lavin (Shields) Keele.

From 1958 to April 1989, he was associated with Keele Milling Company.  Jim was a retired truck driver for St. Louis Paint Company.  He was a past master of Rome Lodge 721 and was past patron of Rome Chapter 1014.  He was a 50-year member of Mt. Vernon Lodge 31, and was a 50-year member of Mt. Vernon Chapter 233.  In addition, he was a 50-year member of Southern Illinois Valley, a 50-year member of Ainad Shrine, Jefferson County Shrine, a member of Mt. Vernon Sportsman’s Club.  Jim was also a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, David of Mt. Vernon and Michael and his wife of Bluford;  long-time companion, Marianne Lovin;   six grandchildren;  and seven great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Pat;  both of his parents; and two sons, Alan and Jeff.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and burial has taken place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mt.
