MT. VERNON — The Fourth of July is going to be a bit different this year, but one aspect of the holiday that won’t be different is the use of fireworks to celebrate the nation’s birthday. Mt. Vernon Fire Chief Kevin Sargent is reminding residents to be safe if you are going to celebrate with fireworks.
Sargent says in addition to being as careful as possible, make sure you are also setting off fireworks legally.
Sargent says sparklers also pose a high risk for accidents over the holiday, especially with children.
To sign up for the fireworks training, call Lt. Aaron Shook at the Mt. Vernon Fire Department at 242-6835.
