HARRISBURG — The Harrisburg City Council approved the low bid to move forward with Phase 2 of water main rehabilitation at their meeting Thursday morning. The low bid of just under $2.1 million was awarded to Wiggs Construction of Benton.

The lines to be replaced in Phase 2 are right around the square in Harrisburg. Mayor John McPeek says there’s no choice but to replace these lines.

The project is being funded through IEPA grant and loan money. Also at Thursday’s meeting, the council approved to re-award the Sloan Street Sidewalk improvement project, hired Alex Watkins as the city’s Economic and Community Development Director, and reviewed the 2020-2021 city budget. The budget will be posted for public viewing for 10 days and will be voted on at the next city council meeting, which has been moved to April 30 at 6 p.m. at Harrisburg City Hall.
