JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL — Jefferson County Health Department was notified late Thursday of a positive case of COVID-19 within Jefferson County. The patient is a male in his 50s from Texas who was traveling through Jefferson County and became ill enough to be hospitalized.

He is in isolation at a local hospital with all appropriate precautions being taken. Jefferson County Health Department is notifying all known contacts he had within the county, all of which are considered lower risk due to the limited contact.

Jefferson County Health Department’s Director of Environmental Health Brian Wells says to continue supporting local businesses, but do so safely.

Director of Nursing with the JCHD Tracy Marlow says to be on the lookout for symptoms of the virus in yourself and others.
