William Joseph Woodfall, age 77 of Mt. Vernon, Illinois was called home to be with the Lord at 7:26 pm on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at his home where he fought the good fight with cancer. He was born September 20, 1942 in Salem, Illinois to Joseph T. Woodfall and Willadene (Millican) Woodfall. He married Nida Rankin on December 31, 1970 in Salem, Illinois celebrating 49 years together.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nida Woodfall and sons, Michael Woodfall and wife Sonia of The Woodlands, Texas and Matthew Woodfall and wife Janna of Philpot, KY. Six grandsons: Titus, Isaac, Josiah, and Silas of Philpot, Kentucky and Joseph and Timothy Woodfall of The Woodland, Texas. Special cousins: Families of Greg and Kent Gruenkemeyer of Salem, Illinois and Candy Tate of Mattoon. Illinois.

Bill proudly served his country from 1966-1968 in the US Navy Seabees stationed in Vietnam. He operated Woodfall & Associates, Inc., Land Surveying and Engineering in Mt. Vernon for 32 years. He was recipient of the Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association Lifetime Membership Award.

He was an Elder of Grace Community Church in Mt. Vernon. He served on many community boards and committees including Habitat for Humanity and was instrumental in the development of the Lifeboat Alliance Family Shelter serving the homeless. He volunteered as a BSA Scout Master for over 25 years and was the recipient of the highest award given by the Black Gold Council.

He loved traveling, camping, fly fishing, boating, kayaking, black powder guns, dutch oven cooking…all things outdoors. He is dearly loved and will be missed by family and many friends.
