LeRoy Young, 87, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 3:02 P.M. September 18, 2019 at his residence. He was born January 25, 1932 in Maud, Oklahoma to the late Daniel Albert and Ethel Marie (Grey) Young. He married Patricia Fenton on December 25, 1951 in Mount Vernon where she survives.
In addition to his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, LeRoy is survived by his daughter, Cindy Spangler of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Garry Allison and wife Drue of Nashville, Tennessee, Coby Archer and husband, Marty of Mount Vernon, Lynne Page French of Mount Vernon, Michelle Kuschel and husband, Mike of Mount Vernon, Shane Young and wife, Timarie of California, Chad Young and wife, Megan of Olathe, Kansas; twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Young of Mount Vernon; sisters, Pat Wood of Salem and Joann Chatman of Mount Vernon; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Young of Memphis, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Young was preceded in death by his brother, Dan Young; sister, Peggy Young; son, Gregory Young; infant daughter, Lynne Page; infant great-granddaughter, Noa Elizabeth Allison; and son-in-law, Mark Spangler.
LeRoy proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He owned and operated Young’s Meat Processing and later worked as a Correctional Officer for the Department of Corrections, retiring as a Lieutenant. LeRoy played in the Mount Vernon Hall of Fame basketball game, participated in the Little League program in California, and was an avid golfer. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 6:00 P.M. Saturday, September 21, 2019 with Garry Allison officiating. Inurnment will take place at Bethel Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 or the American Red Cross.
