MARION COUNTY — A 38-year-old Marion County man already serving time in the Illinois Department of Corrections on an unrelated charge was charged Thursday in Marion County court with sexual assault of a child.

Richard K. Finley is already serving a 7-year prison sentence on a 2014 charge of felony disposal of methamphetamine manufacturing waste.

He began serving that sentence in October, but the investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a child was already underway at that time.

Finley was brought back to Marion County on Thursday from the prison in Vandalia and was formally charged with Class X felony predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and Class 1 felony criminal sexual assault of a family member under the age of 18.

IDOC online records anticipate Finley to be released to parole on the meth conviction in August. However, bail on the sexual assault charges was set Thursday at $750,000, which would require at least $75,000 cash to be posted to gain his release. Special conditions of release include not having contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Finley is next scheduled to appear in court on April 11 for a first appearance with his court-appointed attorney.
