CENTRALIA — On Tuesday, three 618 firefighters and their Chief attended the funeral services for Captain Jake Ringering.

Capt. Ringering lost his life battling a fire last week. The local firefighters were joined by hundreds of other firefighters from across the nation to honor Capt. Ringering. The streets of Alton and Godfrey were lined by the public during the procession.

As they were returning to Centralia Tuesday, the local firefighters witnessed a vehicle drive off the roadway. They immediately turned around and went to give assistance.

With their uniform coats and hats left in the car, they went to work. The accident was caused from a medical emergency. They rendered aid until the local fire department and ambulance arrived.

Continuing on their way home, they stopped for lunch near Troy.

An anonymous person paid for their lunch. Local 618 firefighters want to thank that person who saw them in uniform and opened their heart with a generous act.
