MARION COUNTY — Green Street Road was closed east of Central City early Tuesday morning as firefighters from several departments battled a house fire in 10-degree weather on Arbor Lane on the north side of Raccoon Lake.
The call of the fire was received at 4:07 a.m. Tuesday morning initially for the Centralia Fire Department, who immediately called for mutual aid upon arrival at the scene due to the lack of a good water supply at the scene.
Fire departments responded with tankers from the Centralia Fire Protection District, Sandoval, Odin, and Salem, with Kell firefighters, responded to man the main Centralia fire station downtown.
The resident went to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia by private vehicle for treatment of smoke inhalation before an ambulance arrived on scene.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate the cause of the blaze which destroyed the home.
The resident reported smelling smoke and knew there was fire inside the home before he evacuated.
The fire resulted in a section of Green Street Road being closed for several hours Tuesday morning as firefighters were on scene.
