Mt. Vernon City Council moves forward with design of new post office

MT. VERNON — The redevelopment of Park Plaza continues for Mt. Vernon at Monday night’s City Council meeting. A location was submitted last month to USPS for the new post office. However, even after a resolution was approved by the council with Brian P. Edmison & Associates, LLC for $79,000 to move forward on a design of the new facility, the location cannot be revealed to the public.

Mt. Vernon Mayor John Lewis commented that the federal government regulates information on not only a new location of the post office but what information the council is allowed to present to the public as well.

Mayor Lewis did say the new post office facility would not move out of the downtown area and the new location should be announced within 3 weeks to a month.

The construction of the new post office facility, however, would not be complete until late December at the earliest.
