Norma L. Schmitt, 81, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019, at her home.

She was born February 2, 1938, in Hihat, Kentucky, the daughter of James and Ida Emma (Smith) Powell.  She was raised by Gordon and Delia Stager.  On August 1, 1955, in Indiana, she married Ted A. Schmitt, and he preceded her in death on October 23, 2017.

She was a devoted homemaker and wife to Ted, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  She was a published poetress, a Bible scholar, a life-long Sunday School teacher, and a Girls in Action (GA) Leader.  She was a devoted Christian, and loved the Lord.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Schmitt is survived by two daughters, Debby Carter and husband Steve of Salem, and Tracy Dorris of Mt. Vernon;  nine grandchildren;  twenty great-grandchildren;   one great-grandchild due in May;  six great-great-grandchildren;  and her faithful companion, Sugar.

In addition to her husband, Ted A. Schmitt, she was preceded in death by her parents;  one son, Gregory Schmitt;  two sons-in-law, Dan Dorris and Michael Hines;  one grandson, Joshua Hines;  and one great-grandson, Brandan Dorris.

Funeral Service for Mrs. Schmitt will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Jason Webb officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service, on Tuesday, at the church.  Memorial gifts may be made to the Josh Hines Scholarship or Puerto Rico Missions Trip at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and will be accepted at the service, or by mail to the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O.
