FAYETTE COUNTY — A Fayette County judge granted a request Tuesday to delay the trial of a Mulberry Grove man charged with murder, just weeks after rejecting an earlier motion for a delay.

Judge Don Sheafor agreed to vacate the murder trial of 69-year-old David Bright to allow time for the defendant to undergo a mental evaluation. A status on that evaluation was set in court Tuesday for April 5 at 9 a.m.

Earlier this month Sheafor had rejected a motion to delay Bright’s jury trial for the alleged murder of 56-year-old Brownstown cattleman James Skinner.

Skinner was found dead September 17, 2017, at his home in Brownstown. At that time then Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen said it was obvious that someone had taken Skinner’s life; however, he did not release the cause of Skinner’s death and the case was placed under investigation.

Bright was arrested the following January on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder. He’s remained in the Fayette County Jail since that time, with bail set at $1 million.
