BENTON — The Benton City Council Tuesday approved a resolution supporting the sales tax proposition by Franklin County for construction of a new  courthouse and to complete renovations to the Campbell Building.

Voters will decide on April 2 if they want a one percent sales tax that will generate revenue for construction of a new courthouse to replace the current courthouse that was built in the 1870s and is suffering from physical and structural problems.

In other business, council members approved a contract with Axon for body cameras for the police department, approved updating the fire
department including ADA compliance and approved installing a generator at City Hall.

Traffic patterns will also change on Vale Street as the council approved stop signs for northbound traffic at the intersections with Hickman Street, Eighth Street and Ninth Street.
