JEFFERSON COUNTY — This week, the Jefferson County Treasurer’s office will be making another distribution of 2017 property taxes that were collected in 2018.

This distribution will be in excess of $6.8 million and will bring the total distribution to more than $42.3 million.

Of that total, nearly $30 million, or 70%, went to schools and colleges. Jefferson County received nearly $3.4 million, various road districts $3.1 million. The cities and villages got $2.8 million, and fire protection $905,000. The remaining $2.5 million went to Rend Lake Conservancy, the library, airport, and other smaller districts.

A final, smaller distribution will be made in the spring following completion of mobile home tax collections. For more information, call Treasurer Watt at 618-244-8010.
