MARION — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says that suspicious object found Friday night at the Grassy General Store just south of Marion was nothing more than a misplaced inert training device.

 

Deputy Brian Murrah with the sheriff’s office says the object was collected as evidence. The investigation into how the device became misplaced continues.

 

The sheriff’s office received a report around 6:45 Friday night about an object that appeared to be some type of explosive device at the business.

 

Williamson County Deputies responded. After a brief investigation assistance was requested from the Carbondale PD/SIU PD Bomb Disposal Unit.

 

Appropriate evacuations and safety measures were put in place.

 

The Illinois State Police, Lake of Egypt Fire Department and Williamson County Fire Protection District also assisted with the call.

 

The Illinois Secretary of State’s Bomb Disposal Unit assisted with the investigation.
