JACKSON COUNTY — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says the human remains found by hunters in the woods on North Marion Street in Carbondale have been identified.

Officials say the Illinois State Police Crime Lab identified the remains has 41-year-old Durelle Davis. Davis, formerly of Chicago, lived locally in the area.

Hunters contacted the sheriff’s department on Oct. 28 after finding the bones. Sheriff’s deputies responded and found skeletal remains. Jackson County detectives, crime scene investigators and members from the SIU Anthropology Department determined the remains were human.

The Jackson and Williamson County sheriff’s offices and the Illinois State Police continue to investigate. No other information is currently available.
