ZEIGLER-ROYALTON — A 12-year-old child was taken into detention Wednesday morning for making a threat to the Zeigler-Roylaton Grade School and a family member.

Franklin County State’s Attorney Evan Owens says the case is being investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Zeigler-Royalton School District. All threats to school safety are considered serious.

Owens says appropriate measures were taken by school officials and law enforcement to assure the safety of children and other persons in the school. The child remains in the custody of the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center at this time.

The sheriff’s office and school officials are confident that the child, who was responsible for the threat, acted alone and that there is no immediate danger to the school.
