JACKSON COUNTY — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a single-vehicle crash that happened just after 11 Monday morning on Route 13 east of Airport Road in Murphysboro.

According to the crash report, a car was traveling west on Route 13 and traveled off the right side of the roadway. The car traveled down an embankment and hit a body of floodwater. The car was partially submerged in the floodwater.

Two Good Samaritans ran into the floodwater and pulled the unresponsive driver from the car. Both men carried the victim to safety and covered him to keep him warm until emergency services arrived. Jackson County Ambulance Service responded and took the victim to a local hospital.

Murphysboro Police assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene.
