WILLIAMSON COUNTY — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating why a small child was found without clothing and running in an open field near Cambria on Tuesday morning.

The sheriff’s office received the call about 7 a.m. Tuesday. The caller had temporarily placed the child in their vehicle to provide shelter from the weather. The child was physically unharmed and transported to the Cambria Police Department.

The child’s parents were located at their residence near where the child had been found. They were unaware the child was not in the home.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has been contacted. After interviewing the parents and other children in the home, DCFS took steps to ensure the future safety of the children while their investigation continues.
