CENTRALIA — Centralia police are investigating an early Sunday morning fatal shooting.

According to Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison, around 3:52 a.m. Sunday, his department began receiving multiple 911 calls of shots fired. One call reported a man down near an alley in the 500 block of Haussler Street between Maple and Sycamore.

The Marion County Coroner pronounced the man dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending an autopsy today (Monday) and the notification of family members.

Chief Atchison also confirms detectives are working with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in regard to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 that may be connected to the shooting death.

In that crash a male occupant of the vehicle was reportedly suffering from gunshot wounds.

That person’s condition is unknown, but he was reportedly alive when transported to the Washington County Hospital in Nashville for treatment.

As this is an ongoing investigation for both cases, we’ll bring you updated to this story as they’re made available.
