Vandalia Man to Serve Five Years in Prison for Sexually Abusing Minor

FAYETTE COUNTY — A 32-year-old Vandalia man was sentenced Tuesday in Fayette County court to 5-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after he earlier pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a minor.

Ernest K. Klucas Jr. filed an open plea of guilty in August 2018 to one of four counts Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor.

In addition to the 5-year prison sentence, Klucas will have to serve 3-years to life on mandatory supervised release after completing his prison term.

With an open plea of guilty, the defendant is only agreeing that if the case were to go to trial the prosecution had sufficient evidence to likely get a conviction.

In the agreement Klucas entered, three of the four counts against him were dismissed in exchange for his open plea on one count.
