ILLINOIS — Area Fire Department are alerting the public to active flooding over area roadways and reminding motorists to never attempt to cross a flooded roadway.

Our entire listening area remains under an active flood watch that the National Weather Service has issued until 6 p.m. tonight.

Several rounds of rain with embedded thunderstorms may lead to flooding concerns tonight along rivers and streams and in low lying areas with poor drainage.

Heavy rainfall will result in flooding of low lying or poor drainage areas…and ultimately dangerous flash flooding on smaller creeks and streams. Significant rises on larger streams and rivers will also be possible.

A Flood Watch is advanced notice that conditions are favorable that may lead to flooding.

People in the Watch area, especially in flood-prone areas, should use this time to check on preparedness requirements. Stay informed, and be ready for action if flooding is observed or if a Flood Warning is issued.
