Reva Hawkins, 87, of Dix, passed away Late Friday night, Feb. 1, 2019, at her home.

Reva  was born in Covington, Indiana, on December 15, 1931, a daughter of Theodore Hardy and Roxie (Grubbs) Hardy, at their dairy farm.  She married Grant Wilburn Hawkins of Mt. Vernon on June 24, 1956 at Flora Christian Church in Flora, Il. Grant preceded her in death on November 18, 2008.

She graduated from Covington High School in 1950. Attended Cincinnati Christian University in 1951, transferred to Lincoln Christian University in 1952 and graduated in 1954. She went to work as a secretary for Bro. Roy Blackmore at the Flora Christian Church. She also signed in campers on Sunday afternoon for Oil Belt Christian Service Camp. That is where she met Grant Hawkins. They married on June 24, 1956 at Flora Christian Church in Flora, IL.

At Cincinnati Christian University she helped Standard Publishing to sort Daily Vacation Bible School literature that went out to the churches. At Lincoln Christian University she went out to direct Bible School in Indianapolis, IN and churches north of there as well as in Ashland, Illinois.

She liked to sing, lead singing, sing specials, and read the Bible. Enjoyed going to NACC’s to hear outstanding preachers & singing groups.  (Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, St. Louis, Kansas City)  She liked children and enjoyed people and going to church.  She was a member of the Christian churches where Grant preached at until 2000.

Reva is survived by a son, Kevin Grant Hawkins of Dix, IL; daughters Brenda Hawkins of Joplin, MO and Karen Romig and husband Jeff of Danville, IL; son-in-law Jim Lane of Sturgis, KY; 3 grandchildren, Joshua Grant Lane and wife Crystal of Stafford, Virginia, Juliana Lane Higgason and husband Adam of Mt. Washington, KY, Karis Romig of Danville, IL; one great grandson, Nathaniel James Lane of Stafford, Virginia;  brother, Bob Hardy and wife Nellie of Covington, IN; sister Martha (Hardy) Ratcliff & husband Edward of Kingman, IN;  and several nephews and nieces.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janetta Kay Lane (2013); sister, Mary Ann Brentlinger; and a nephew, Jim Hardy.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, Illinois, with J. Howard Kraps and Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow at Donoho Prairie Cemetery.

Friends may call from 12 p.m. (Noon) until the hour of service, Tuesday, at the funeral home.
