Gertrude Standridge Martin, 91, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, formerly of Waldron, Arkanas, passed away at 8:37 P.M.January 25, 2019 at Nature Trail Health Care Center.She was born May 9, 1927 in Waldron, Arkansas to the late Oliver Millage and Hattie Day (Craig) Self. Gertrude first married Lemuel David Standridge in June 1946. He preceded her in death in February 1956. She later married Kelly Martin in June 1970. He preceded her in death in March 1983.

 

Gertrudeis survived by her children, Clyde Standridge of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Erma Lee Horn and husband, Frank of Cherry Valley, Illinois; grandchildren, Stephanie Vriem, Scott Smith, Shawn Smith, Steve Rogne, Pam Rogne, and Sam Rogne; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Self of Shawnee, Oklahoma; half-sister, Treva Robertson of Hockley, Texas; and nephews, Patrick Self, Jerry Allen Robertson, and Robert Robertson.

 

In addition to her parents and husbands, Gertrude was preceded in death by her brothers, Tommy Self and Leon Self; and stepbrother, Lloyd Tippett, Jr.

 

Gertrude worked as a cosmetologist for many years and later as a nurse assistant. She also worked as a teacher at Cox Kiddie College. Gertrude attended Freewill Baptist Church in Mount Vernon and loved working with flowers and gardening. Gertrude was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

 

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 1, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at First Freewill Baptist Church in Mount Vernon with Reverend David Shores officiating. Internment will be held atPine Crest Cemetery in Mena, Arkansas at a later date. Memorials may be made in Gertrude’s honor to the Lymphoma Cancer Society.
