MARION COUNTY — A 62-year-old Centralia businessman pleaded guilty this week to theft of governmental funds over $10,000 but less than $100,000 and failure to file an Illinois Income Tax Return.

Douglas Loy was sentenced Wednesday to four years conditional discharge and ordered to make more than $61,000 in restitution.  Loy paid $15,000 of that restitution after entering his guilty plea in Marion County Court Wednesday.

The theft charge accused Loy of failing to remit collected sales tax on auto part sales. The incidents occurred between February 20th, 2013 and June 20th, 2017.

As part of the plea, charges of failure to file sales and use tax returns and an additional failure to file income tax charge were dropped.

The Illinois Attorney General’s office prosecuted the case.
