SESSER — Former Sesser Mayor Ned Mitchell and a Sesser woman were arrested on drug charges Tuesday afternoon after Sesser Police executed a search warrant at a home in Sesser around 2 p.m.

According to Sesser Mayor Jason Ashmore, Mitchell was mayor from 1980 to 2013.

Sesser Police says a subsequent search of the home produced methamphetamine and items consistent with the use of meth.

The 70-year-old Mitchell and 42-year-old Elaina Kays, also of Sesser, were both charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine and were taken to the Franklin County Jail.

Police say formal charges are pending.
