ILLINOIS (WITHERS BROADCASTING) — As Winter Storm Gia gets ready to hit our are later today, the National Weather Service in Paducah says a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect starting at 3 this afternoon and continuing through noon tomorrow.

An approaching storm system will bring a period of wintry precipitation to the region later today, tonight, and early Saturday morning. The line will run north from Anna to Carmi. While mixed precipitation is possible at the onset, a transition to mainly snow is expected through most of tonight, when the heaviest snow accumulations are forecast. Saturday morning as temperatures warm above freezing.

Heavy wet snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are expected.

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.
