MT. VERNON — A section of businesses and buildings on the east side of Mt. Vernon including the Granada Theater may soon see some major improvements. An ordinance to approve a tax increment redevelopment agreement with RAM Property Development, LLC for the theater was passed at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

Owner of the Granada Theater, Russell Brown says he has more than just one skin in the game when it comes to redeveloping that area of town.

Councilman Jeff May asked City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel what she thought the value of that type of property would bring to Mt. Vernon.

The Downtown Development Board had recommended to the city council to approve this ordinance based on the criteria that it brings foot traffic, creates jobs, and is a gathering place or restaurant to serve the downtown area.
