EQUALITY — Funeral arrangements have been announced for an Equality man who died in a mining accident Saturday at Hamilton County Coal Mine #1 near Dahlgren.

Visitation for 55-year-old John Ditterline will be held Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 6 p.m. at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality.

According to Hamilton County Coroner Steve Bowling, John Ditterline was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m. Saturday.

Ditterline was found by coworkers pinned underground between an air lock door and a coal rib around 3:30 Saturday morning. Employees tried to resuscitate the man but were unable to do so. An ambulance took the man to a hospital where he died.

Ditterline worked for S and L Industries based in Clay, Kentucky.
