SPRINGFIELD — Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White has awarded over $1.3 million in library grant awards to 694 public school districts.

Appropriations approved by the General Assembly and the Governor awarded school library grants based on a formula of $.75 per student, with a minimum grant award of $750.

More than 1.6 million Illinois students served by school library media programs have benefited from the grants.

Locally, Mt. Vernon Township High School will receive a little more than $850 and Mt. Vernon City Schools will receive just over $950.

Elsewhere in Jefferson County, Waltonville Schools,Rome District 2, Summersville Grade School and Opdyke-Belle Rive will each receive the minimum grant award of $750.
