MARION COUNTY — A 32-year-old Centralia man turned himself in Wednesday to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in connection to a Tuesday night shooting of a 28-year-old St. Louis man in the 700 block of Rasback Street.

According to Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison, Bart N. Brown had been identified as a suspect in the incident. Brown was considered armed and dangerous.

Atchison thanked the public for all the calls, cooperation and tips to his office regarding Brown and his location.

After turning himself in, Brown was questioned and booked into the Marion County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and illegal possession of a firearm.

Centralia police had earlier reported that the victim called 9-1-1 just before 6 p.m. Tuesday night to report he had been shot in the left shoulder and chest area with a shotgun.

Officers ultimately located the man who was subsequently transported by Lifestar Ambulance to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment. However, due to the severity of the man’s injuries he was later transferred to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment.

In addition to Centralia police, Centralia Fire and Lifestar Ambulance responded to the scene. The victim was initially transported to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia but was later transferred to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment.
