MT. VERNON — A 25-year-old Kansas City, Missouri man is in the Jefferson County Jail in connection with an incident Thursday afternoon involving a reported fight and shots fired at Wendy’s restaurant in Mt. Vernon.

According to Mt. Vernon police, around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, a Mt Vernon Officer responding to the shots fired call located the suspect vehicle leaving the parking lot of the restaurant and initiated a felony stop on the vehicle.

Several subjects were in the vehicle and transported to the Mt Vernon Police Department to be interviewed.

Following the interviews, it was determined the two subjects involved in the altercation were relatives and traveling together.

The two were involved in a verbal altercation followed by a physical altercation.

One of the subjects, Kedrick M Harris reportedly displayed a handgun and fired one shot from the handgun into the air.

The subjects then entered their vehicle and were in the process of leaving together, along with other family members, when stopped.

There were no injuries and no items were apparently struck by the bullet. A loaded handgun was seized from inside the vehicle.

Harris was arrested for alleged reckless discharge of a firearm and was taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await the setting of bail.
