JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 26-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested over the weekend on multiple felony charges in connection with an alleged 2016 carjacking incident.

Ledale Jones had avoided arrest since he was indicted and a warrant was issued for his arrest in January 2017.

According to court information, on September 12, 2016, Jones stole a vehicle and two cell phones from the alleged victim by force and while in possession of a firearm.

He was taken into custody Friday on the $200,000 warrant charging him with Class X felony aggravated vehicle hijacking with a firearm, Class X felony armed robbery with a firearm, Class 1 felony vehicular hijacking, Class 1 felony aggravated robbery indicating a firearm, and Class 2 felony robbery.

Jones is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges January 23, 2019. He informed the court Wednesday that he would be hiring private counsel.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard, the case was investigated by the Mt. Vernon Police Department.
